Cullen Cramsey, affectionately known as ‘Cully’ by friends and family, is originally from the Washington DC area where he was introduced to Adobe Photoshop while taking a digital photography class in high school. In this class, Cullen learned the basic skills that started him on his path to being the digital and mixed media artist he is today. His interest in digital art has always been primarily focused on collage & photo manipulation.
From 2006-2020, Cullen was living his best life in Miami, FL. He graduated from Florida International University in 2009 and decided the fast lifestyle he was living in Miami was too much fun to give up and decided to stay in the area.
As it did for most, this all came to a screeching halt when the pandemic hit. While others continued to party, Cullen became more focused on his artwork than he had ever been. During the global lockdown, Cullen turned is fifth floor apartment into an art studio and his balcony into a work shop where he began spray painting, using power tools, pouring cement & epoxy resin, among many other things any landlord would be upset to learn about, but he didn’t care, he was having fun.
Prior to this exploratory period, Cullen had not been familiar with the world of Mixed Media Art, combining various materials and methods to achieve your desired effect. The idea that he could combine digital with physical, print with paint, wood and vinyl, really sparked a new desire to elevate his artwork.
Some of the original pieces begin as fine art canvas prints of digital work which is then embellished with paint and other elements ( see ‘Marilyn Snaked’), while others begin as a blank canvas which he paints and then adds a cutout of a printed digital element (see ‘From Russia With Love’). He began creating three dimensional pieces by incorporating wood to add layers and depth and almost seem holographic. (‘Louie’s Skull’, ‘Bubble Skull’, ‘Something About Mary’).
Cullen is still living in Miami, Florida and will be exhibiting his artwork at the Spectrum Art Fair in the SOLO exhibit during Miami Art Week aka Art Basel December 1-4. Please stop by to see his original artwork and receive a discount code for prints on this site.
